Company Philosophy

“We treat our customers like family and do whatever it takes to get them back on the road as quickly and smoothly as possible. Ultimately, we want to provide such a high level of service that they think of us whenever they have vehicle needs in the future.”

Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for auto repair shops that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Fast Lane European, the key to keeping customers happy is simple: always give them the best possible value for their money. “We provide clarity and transparency in every interaction,” says owner Mason Lane. “That includes clearly explaining everything we do and helping each customer make the best decisions for their vehicle. Ultimately, we want them to have reliable transformation and be completely satisfied with our work.”

Fast Lane European has been repairing and maintaining BMWs, Volvos, Mercedes-Benzes, Mini Coopers, Audis, and other European vehicles at its San Jose facility since 2011. In addition to performing factory-recommended maintenance, the company has the training and equipment to work on engines and transmissions, replace brakes, perform alignments, and more.

Unlike less experienced auto shops that take a “hands off” approach to keeping their customers informed, Fast Lane European prioritizes communication throughout each step of the repair process. “We look at each recommendation, repair or evaluation like we’re taking care of a family member’s vehicle, so we always update our customers about what’s going on and take the time to explain our work,” says Mr. Lane. “They expect and deserve a very high level of service, and that’s exactly what we provide.”

Ultimately, Mr. Lane sees Fast Lane European’s dedication to providing every customer with personalized service as its most important attribute. “If a customer wants their mechanic to sit down, have a conversation and look at their car with them, we’re the right shop to choose,” he says. “Our personalized service is the reason so many people choose us over dealerships. Our customers are the reason we do everything, and they know we’re always here to help them.”

Industry Info

A specialized auto repair shop can take better care of you and your car.

Regardless of whether your car is rare, complicated or expensive, entrusting a specialized auto repair shop to fix it can be the best way to keep it running optimally and maximize your budget.

Specialists know what to look and listen for.

Each make and model has its own quirks, and mechanics who specialize get to know those differences. “A jack of all trades is a master of none,” reminds Mason Lane, owner of Fast Lane European in San Jose. “Shops that have the knowledge and take the time to diagnose, fix, and test vehicles for themselves get better results. Driving the cars is a big aspect of quality control. Problems can be avoided by putting in a little more time and actually driving the vehicle to make sure the issue is fixed.”

Independent specialized shops may give better pricing.

Dealerships can create their own retail prices on parts,” explains Mr. Lane. “They’ll buy the parts from manufacturers and sell them at accelerated retail prices. Independent general repair facilities may lack the connections to get quality parts that fit and function like original parts. That’s why you should find a specialized independent shop. They’ll be more honest and give you a better value.”

Thinking down the road

As vehicles get more computerized (including electric and self-driving models), manufacturer-specific shops will have the upper hand. “I don’t think people fully understand the complexity of these vehicles,” says Mr. Lane. “All of the systems have to work in synergy and each component is dependent on the system working properly. Shops that don’t specialize in a certain brand and don’t commit to having manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment won’t be able to repair or maintain these cars. The days of being able to work on anything and everything are fading away.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will it take to fix my car?

A: It depends on the type of work. We can try to answer that over the phone when you make your appointment based on the service you’re requesting, but it may change once we look at your vehicle and establish what it actually needs.

Q: Can you work on my Honda?

A: No, we only work on European makes and models.

Q: What types of replacement parts do you install?

A: We use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts that are produced by the company that made your vehicle’s original parts, so they’ll fit perfectly.

Q: Do you charge for a diagnosis?

A: Once we determine what your vehicle needs, we’ll tell you if our diagnostic charge applies to your job. Most of the time, we’re able to apply the charge toward the repair.

Q: Can you provide a loaner vehicle while my car is in the shop?

A: Yes. There’s an Enterprise Rent-A-Car right next door and we have a good relationship with them. Most of the time, we can cover the cost of a rental car while your vehicle is in our shop.

Q: How much do you charge for new brakes?

A: It depends on the brake package your car has, but we’ll be able to tell that from the VIN. We’ll also need to perform a brake inspection first to determine what your car actually needs, but that’s free.

Very knowledgeable, very professional, courteous regarding your time, and they also are pretty competitive in their pricing. Also, they don't do work that is not necessary at that time.

It's convenient for me and there is always ample parking. They are also always ready to bring you in at the scheduled time for your appointment.

Mostly, I appreciate the quality of their service and how proactive they are. They have helped me with two extended warranties where they were to credit me for the value out of those, which was huge, because it really saved me a lot, and most places wouldn't even look for those. I adore my cars and Fast Lane has made them a joy to drive because they always leave there running in the best shape.

Their competence is extraordinary and they are easy to work with.

From a technical standpoint, they seem extremely knowledgeable and I trust them on that end. However, my one cautionary tale is that I got a strong sense that they attempt to do a lot of up-selling. If I decided not to use them again, that would be the only reason why. I just feel like you might go in for one thing and get talked in to suddenly needing 2 to 3 other things. Not being a super technical car person myself, I never really know what to say no to but would appreciate more transparency, as the consumer.

They are very nice, courteous, and professional.
