Q: How long will it take you to repair my garage door? A: We almost always complete repairs on the same day. Our trucks are fully stocked with parts from a wide variety of manufacturers, so we rarely need to run back to the shop to pick up parts. The only time we have to do that is if you have a custom system or an older system that isn’t manufactured anymore. Q: My garage door only opens a few inches. What’s wrong? A: It’s probably a broken spring, which is a repair for which we can provide same day service. Keep in mind, don’t keep hitting your wall button and trying to force it open—that might burn out the motor and make the problem worse. Q: Why won’t my garage door close? A: If your garage door won’t close, it usually means the sensors are out of alignment. You can align them yourself if you’re handy, but we can do that repair with same day service, too. If the two lights on the sensors are flashing or aren’t illuminated, there are times where we may need to replace the sensors. Q: Will my garage door work if the electricity goes out? A: Almost all automatic garage door systems have an emergency release cord that hangs down from the motor. Pull the emergency release cord and you’ll be able to open and close the door manually until the power comes back on. Q: What happens if I lose the remote to my garage door opener? A: Remotes can be reprogrammed or replaced, and we carry a variety of replacement remotes on our service trucks. Also, we can reprogram the remote codes so the old codes will no longer work. Depending on the system, you may even be able to do it yourself. Q: Do you install keypad systems? A: Yes. We sell and install universal keypad systems that work with the majority of automatic garage door systems. Q: Can you install windows on an existing garage door? A: It depends on the door. There are many reasons for a garage door falling out of proper alignment, so make sure you have a professional diagnose the situation before attempting to fix it yourself. For more on properly maintaining your garage door opener, consider the following tips: <ul> <li>Every garage door opener is designed to reverse direction when the descending door comes into contact with an obstruction. If your door has problems in this situation, the opener’s sensitivity may need to be adjusted. The owner’s manual can tell you how to make the adjustment, but you should also consider having a trained professional perform this service.</li> <li>By law, all garage door openers that were manufactured in the United States before 1993 must include a second safety reversal feature—in most cases, it’s photoelectric eyes that are installed no higher than six inches above the floor and create an invisible beam that, once broken, automatically reverses the door. If your door opener doesn’t have a similar feature, you should get a new one.</li> <li>Make sure your garage door opener’s push button is wall-mounted at least five feet above the floor so it’s out of the reach of children. As a further safety precaution, you should always keep the opener’s remote control where children can’t find it and teach them the importance of never playing with it.</li> <li>Some garage door transmitter signals can be “recorded” by thieves and replayed later to open the door. However, if your remote control contains rolling code technology, the code changes after every use and renders transmitter recording devices useless. You should also avoid purchasing a kit system from a big box hardware retailer. They tend to break quickly and you end up spending more money than if you’d chosen a professionally installed system.”
