Frank Carrasco founded Carrasco Construction in 2001.

Carrasco Construction is a full-service contracting firm with a broad range of experience in commercial and residential projects throughout the East Bay. The company’s services include commercial tenant improvements, custom built homes, additions, loft conversions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, painting, decks, a variety of interior and exterior repairs, and more.

Owner Frank Carrasco credits much of Carrasco Construction’s success to its ability to listen to its clients, honor their wishes and make every effort to provide 100 percent satisfaction. “We know the most powerful form of advertising is word-of-mouth referrals, so if there’s ever a problem with anything we’ve worked on, we won’t hesitate to make it right,” he says. “Personal recommendations of satisfied customers continue to be the key to our steady growth.”

Carrasco Construction’s skilled employees are trained to guide clients throughout every phase of their projects, and they also understand the importance of utilizing eco-friendly materials and products made by well-known manufacturers. “Our goal is to make the remodeling process as stress-free and non-invasive as possible for our clients,” says Mr. Carrasco. “From our detailed estimates—which include line item pricing that allows us to keep costs within budget—to our top-quality workmanship and personalized approach, we bring a high level of expertise to each project.”

Comparative Summary

Contracting companies are always looking for ways to discern themselves from their competition, and those that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award are already several steps ahead. In addition to its Diamond Certified status, Carrasco Construction differentiates itself by employing a wide range of experienced construction professionals, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters and tile workers—a full-service business approach that eliminates the need for customers to rely on subcontractors to finish their projects. “Having a team with such a variety of skills allows us to keep up the quality assurance of our work,” says owner Frank Carrasco.

Mr. Carrasco established Carrasco Construction in 2001 to provide construction services for Bay Area homes and businesses, including residential additions and remodels, concrete and asphalt paving, and fire and water damage repair. The company maintains its focus on quality by organizing its services into three specialty crews: one for general construction, one for concrete and one for asphalt paving. “We can do it all,” says Mr. Carrasco. “Whatever needs to be done, we have the expertise.”

Unlike other contracting firms that only focus on one aspect of customers’ construction projects, Carrasco Construction can help its clients with everything from initial designs and written plans to inspections, paperwork and permits. In addition to its skilled and experienced crew members, the company enjoys strong working relationships with heating and air conditioning experts, structural and civil engineers, architects, insurance estimators and more.

Another unique characteristic of Carrasco Construction is its philosophy of communicating with customers throughout every phase of their projects. “We keep our customers as involved in their projects as they want to be,” confirms Mr. Carrasco. “It makes each job go a lot smoother. Also, we always return phone calls right away. It’s very important for us to be in constant communication with our clients.”

Industry Info

If you’re remodeling an older home, make sure your contractor is certified to handle asbestos and lead paint.

“A contractor who doesn’t know what he’s doing can contaminate an entire house with lead particles and asbestos,” says Frank Carrasco, owner of Carrasco Construction in Concord. “Not only can it end up costing you a lot of money, but it can create a health hazard for you and your family.”

If your house was built before 1978, there’s a good chance it contains some form of lead-based paint. Removing it is a relatively straightforward process, but it requires the expertise and knowledge of a trained professional, so don’t try it yourself. However, there are several preventive measures you can take to reduce the harmful effects of lead-based paint in your home:

• Wipe down flat surfaces (walls, window sills) with a damp paper towel.
• Use a damp mop on your floors every week to control dust.
• Clean or remove your shoes before entering your home to avoid tracking in lead-contaminated soil.
• Vacuum carpets and upholstery to remove dust.
• If possible, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter or a “higher efficiency” collection bag.
• Carefully pick up loose paint chips with a paper towel and discard in the trash, then wipe the surface clean with a wet paper towel.
• Have a professional test for lead hazards in the soil around your house.
• If you rent, immediately notify your landlord if you notice any peeling or chipping paint.

If you’re remodeling or renovating a home with lead-based paint, make sure you take the necessary precautions before you or your contractor begin any work that disturbs painted surfaces, like scraping off paint or tearing out walls. Here are some basic tips to follow:

• Don’t use a belt sander, propane torch, high temperature heat gun, dry scraper or dry sandpaper to remove lead-based paint. Using these tools can create large amounts of lead dust and fumes, which can be extremely toxic and remain in your home long after the work is done.
• Temporarily move your family (especially children and pregnant women) out of the house until the work is done and the area is properly cleaned. If you can’t move your family, at least completely seal off the work area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you maintain a clean worksite?
A: “Yes. After we complete the demolition phase of a project, we haul away all the debris. We clean the jobsite every day and use plastic sheeting, floor coverings and other measures to control dust.”

Q: How will my jobsite be supervised?
A: “A foreman will be onsite at all times, and our owner, Frank Carrasco, visits each jobsite at least once a day.”

Q: How long will my job take to complete?
A: “That depends on the job. Paving a driveway might take a week, and a kitchen remodel might take a month. But once we start, we don’t stop until the project is completed. We don’t start work and then disappear for days at a time—we’ll work your project until it’s done.”

Q: Are you qualified to handle lead paint?
A: “Yes, we’re EPA certified and equipped to safely remove lead paint from buildings.”

That you get an honest day's work for an honest day's pay, and Frank is a nice guy. He's very clean and takes pride in his work.

I liked the way they left my property and the jobsite after they were done, even just after a day's work when they were coming back. They're really good. I've used them both at work and at home.
