Carlos Aguirre: A Solar Disposition
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Program Reporter
SAN FRANCISCO — Carlos Aguirre started his career in the electrical industry, but as he became further acquainted with a related field, he saw a brighter opportunity on the horizon. “During my 10 years in the electrical field, I got the chance to work on a few solar installations,” he explains. “I found that I really liked it and eventually decided to go into solar installation exclusively. After a year and a half of working for a local installer and learning the trade, I started my own company.”
Today, as owner of All Bay Solar, Carlos says his favorite part of his job is its doubly rewarding nature. “Working in solar gives me an opportunity to help people save money on their energy bills while also helping the environment. I think this field is pretty unique in that regard, and it’s very gratifying to know that my work has such a positive impact.”
Born in El Salvador, Carlos came to the United States at the age of 12, where he spent the remainder of his adolescent years in San Francisco’s Mission District. Today, he’s still a resident of the City by the Bay, and he expresses his appreciation for its rich, concentrated diversity. “I just love San Francisco,” he affirms. “The variety here is amazing, from the people and activities to the food. Plus, it’s all so close—you don’t even need to own a car here!”
Outside of work, Carlos devotes the bulk of his time to his family, including his wife, Lina, and daughters, Natali and Emily. “Other than playing soccer on occasion, I’m usually with my family when I’m not working,” he says. “We like doing things like taking walks through the park and hanging out at the beach.”
In regard to his professional career, Carlos says earning his customers’ trust has been critical to his success. “Most people want to know they can trust you before agreeing to do business, which is why I’m a big proponent of being honest and upfront with clients. We find that being transparent in all things enables us to earn our customers’ trust, which makes for a smoother process and greater overall satisfaction.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Carlos says he’d invest more time toward charity work. “I’d like to go back to El Salvador and help people in need. I’m currently involved in a nonprofit organization there called Achinamas that fights for people’s rights, provides food for the hungry and sets up programs to help kids stay out of trouble.”
