Have you ever opened your car door and felt that blast of hot air after your vehicle has been sitting out in the hot sun? Is the interior of your car getting damaged by the sun: bleached, faded colors, or cracked leather? Maybe it is time to put window tinting on your car's windows. Besides providing protection from those harmful UV rays and the brutal heat, window tinting can give your car some added privacy and some style.

Or what about the windows in your home or business? Would you like to keep the direct sun from fading your carpet or your favorite furniture? Energy saving window tinting can not only help you save money on your electric bills, it can also give you added privacy. Window tinting adds many benefits to your home, your vehicle, or your business.

A precise fit is essential in window tinting, and so is consistency of color and reflectivity. Window tinting services in Santa Clara County have experienced technicians that can hand-cut the window tinting film, or they can operate computer-guided cutting systems that almost eliminate any room for error. With specialized equipment, window tinting specialists can guarantee exact color uniformity, they can match the front and rear tints, and they can re-create the original factory tint when the window needs replaced. Tint centers might have some additional services like same-day service or sometimes even mobile window tinting specialists. Lifetime warranties on the tint installation should come with your window tinting work.

Most areas have plenty of window tinting shops, and Santa Clara County is no different. It is important to research and compile a list of local tint shops that would do good work. It is important to learn what makes one tint company better than the other. Ask around - have your friends and neighbors tinted their vehicles windows, shop windows, or home windows? Which shop did they use? You can find many window tinting companies in Santa Clara County that service the major cities of San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Milpitas, as well as the smaller towns.

For apparent reasons, when tinting automotive windows, shops can tint every glass surface except the windshield. The darkness of the tint that is allowed on front door windows is limited by state laws. Because there are varying shapes and sizes of windows and mirrors, there are precision techniques applied to guarantee perfect fits and a smooth finishes.

The majority of Santa Clara County window tinting centers will offer extra services that are related to the vehicle's cosmetics. Numerous window tinting shops will sell custom graphics for windows or even paint in various shapes and sizes, like maybe flames or other icons. After applying the window tint film, they usually offer protective coatings for the glass as well as the paint.

It is important to select a reputable tinting center that applies tinting in several different ways with many protective and stylistic features. The tint shop may sound like a great shop on the phone, but you may want to make a 15 minutes on-site visit to learn all you need to know, like the following items:

  • You will want to pay attention to side-windows also. Check to see if the window film is applied to the inside and completely flush against all four edges of the window. Look at the window film. There is no need to worry if the film looks slightly streaky and discolored because window film does take two to three weeks to dry out and be completely clear. If you see any bubbles under the film or if the film itself isn't completely flat against the window, that is a sure sign of sloppy window tinting.
  • A tint company's area of work should be inside and clean. The tools and the window films should be organized in a professional way. If you find the window tinting shop is outdoors or even in a parking lot, this is a negative since all dust and dirt MUST be removed from the windows before window film is applied.
  • Great tint specialists are attentive to customer service. The representatives should be happy and willing to spend time with you explaining how their shops work. Keep in mind, if they don't spend time with you now, do you think they will spend time with you when something goes wrong with your tint job later on?
  • Check to see if the window film is applied in a single piece or if it is cut into strips that surround the defroster lines. The best window tinting shops will always apply film in a single piece. Make sure to take a look at a vehicle that they have already tinted. Notice the rear window. Also notice the borders of the rear window. If there is a black 'frit' edge on the window, then make sure the window film is securely attached to the frit as well.

Remember, after you asking yourself important questions, interview window tinting companies on the phone and in person. Take the time to make an appointment with the tint professionals before you tint your car. Even if the sign says "drop-ins accepted" or "bring it over any time", you want the window tinting specialist to be unruffled and prepared for you when you arrive. Window tinting will take a couple hours and up to half a day, so you will want to arrange a ride OR go to a nearby coffee shop and enjoy some reading time.

If you want quality from a window tinting expert in Santa Clara County and the greater Bay Area, including the major cities of Palo Alto, Cupertino, Gilroy, Campbell, and Morgan Hill, you can have confidence choosing a Diamond Certified company. Diamond Certified reports are available online for all certified companies. And you'll never be fooled by fake reviews. That's because all research is performed in live telephone interviews of actual customers.

That's because references given to customers from companies are cherry-picked instead of randomly selected from all their customers. So the contractors will likely give you a few customers to call that they know are satisfied.

If you can't find a Diamond Certified window tinting specialist within reach, you'll have to do some research on your own. If you do, it's a good idea to call some references provided by your window tinting company.

If you do call references on your own, specifically ask for a list of the company's 10 most recent customers in Santa Clara County in the major cities of San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Milpitas. This will help avoid them giving you the names of only customers they know were satisfied.

This reflectance is a function of the side of the window film facing the window surface when on filmed windows. Percentages is how value is expressed.

transmittance

Also known as: visible transmittance, absorbance

ultravioletlight

Q: How long will it take to have window tinting installed on car windows?

A: The usually takes 2 - 4 hours. It depends on the difficulty of the car, its cleanliness, and how many windows it has. Remember, tinting windows isn't a race. It takes time for quality installations.

Q: How do you clean tinted windows?

A: Use a soft cloth and warm water. You should never use window cleaner except those that are specifically formulated for use on the aftermarket tinted windows.

Q: Why do I sometimes see little bubbles right after installation?

A: Little bubbles are very normal. A lot of water is used to activate the adhesive so the film can be moved around and positioned for perfect installation. As much of the water as possible is squeegeed out, but a small amount remains between the glass and the film. As the water is evaporating through the film, you could see some little bubbles. These will be gone within a few days.

Q: Can you remove window film?

A: Yes, you can. It can be removed any time after installation. Window tinting professionals know all the tips and tricks on properly removing tint. Removing tint is very tough and messy. It is not recommended for beginners.

Q Is fading a problem with tint?

A: All tint will fade with time.

Q: Do you put window tint on the inside or the outside of the window?

A: Window tint goes on the inside surface of the window which keeps it out of the elements.

Q: Why do you sometimes see bubbled or purple tint on cars?

A: Very old or very poor quality window tint will bubble or turn purple. Even quality older film will discolor and turn purple, but if is accompanied by bubbles then the film used was a cheap brand. Bubbles are the result of a failure in the adhesive which causes the tint to lift from the glass.

Q: Is tinting very durable?

A: Window tinting is protected by a hard scratch-resistant coating that can stand up against everyday use. The word "resistant" does not mean "scratch-proof". Even glass can be scratched, so you will want to be careful when loading and unloading objects with sharp edges or releasing your seatbelt. These things can easily make small nicks which won't be covered by warranty.

Q: Can the tint do any damage to my rear defroster?

A: No, it doesn't. The window tint is laid right over top of it, and the defrosters can immediately be used.
