Richard L. Dickinson was born and raised in the Bay Area. He began his career at the age of eight, painting fences and stairs, at a commanding twenty-five cents per hour. Starting at age 16, he learned the trade by working with experienced painting contractors, and he went into business for himself in 1963. Today, he charges a bit more than a quarter per hour, but he's worth it.
