Manager Isidro Magallanes says Magallanes Automotive employs responsible technicians who have been loyal to the company for many years. “Each of our technicians attends classes to stay up-to-date on the newest technology and repair methods. We’re motivated to perform repairs the right way. Customers trust us because our technicians are ASE Certified, we’re a STAR Certified Smog Station and AAA-approved facility, and we’ve been in business at the same location for the past 37 years.”

Mr. Magallanes believes customers benefit greatly from Magallanes Automotive’s good business relationships with both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers. A new automobile is likely one of the biggest financial investments you’ll ever make, so it’s important to periodically take general maintenance steps that are designed to prolong automotive life and improve overall efficiency. To get the most value from your new car, truck or van, consider the following tips:

Break-in periods
• Accelerate slowly and keep the engine RPM below 3,000 for the first few hours that you drive your new vehicle.
• During the first 1,000 miles (known as the break-in period), limit your speed to 55 miles per hour or lower. Some manufacturers may have a different recommended speed, so check your driver’s manual for specific instructions on your make and model.
• Don’t tow trailers or load down your vehicle with heavy cargo during the break-in period.

Drive with care
• The first 20 minutes is the most wearing part of a drive, so accelerate slowly when first starting your vehicle. It’s a good idea to let your car rest for a few minutes before driving, but don’t let the engine warm up by idling for long periods of time.
• You can give your engine and automatic transmission a rest by putting your vehicle in neutral at red lights or while waiting at drive-through windows. Even when you’re stopped, the engine is still pushing against the brake to move the car forward, which can result in unnecessary wear and tear.
• Have your tire alignment checked every 30,000 miles. This will both prolong the life of your vehicle and improve its handling and steering.
• Change your automatic transmission fluid and filter at the 5,000 mile mark and again after every 25,000 miles. If you often use your vehicle to tow heavy objects, you should change the filter and transmission fluid annually. Manual transmission fluid and filters should be changed after the first 5,000 miles and then after every 50,000 miles. Synthetic motor oil and gear lube will prolong your transmission life.
• Clean engines run cooler and more efficiently than dirty engines, so wash your engine every year or two. You can do this yourself with grease-cutting detergent or dishwashing soap, or you can have the engine steam cleaned by a professional.

Q: How soon will my vehicle be ready?

A: That depends on what work needs to be done. After we perform a diagnostic, we’ll give you an accurate estimate on how long your repairs will take to complete.

Q: Do you use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts?

A: We use both OEM parts and aftermarket parts that are of the same quality as OEM parts. Due to our good relationships with OEM product manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers, we’re able to offer our customers original parts, good warranties and the best prices for their budgets.

Q: Why do the same parts cost more at your shop than they do from a parts supplier?

A: Auto parts stores are just distributors; they don’t do repairs. We offer to sell the parts, but we also guarantee the parts and labor.

Q: What warranty coverage do you offer?

A: Most of our warranties are for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Parts like transmissions or motors sometimes come with manufacturers’ warranties that are up to three years or 100,000 miles. Many times we can offer customers used parts, and we’ll guarantee those, too. Some of those parts are guaranteed for six months or 6,000 miles.

Q: Will you provide transportation while my car is in the shop?

A: Yes. We provide shuttle service and will take you to your home or a local community transportation station, like BART. We can also provide pick-up and delivery for companies.

Q: Can you just perform the minimum repairs it takes to keep my car running?

A: We always recommend repairing your vehicle correctly to get the most life and value from it. We understand that sometimes our customers can’t afford to do everything that’s needed, so we’ll offer to do just the basics. However, we have to inform them that we can’t guarantee those repairs 100 percent, like we do with the rest of our repairs.

The thing I really like is the fact that they have financing available if you qualify. When I don't have the cash in full to pay them off, they have a pretty sweet credit option for 6 months with 0% interest if paid within that time.
