According to Dominick Cormican, the art of plaster/stucco application involves a number of steps, including mixing plaster to desired consistency, applying weatherproof, decorative covering to exterior surfaces of building, and creating decorative textures in finish coat, using sand, pebbles, or stones. Coatings of plaster or stucco are applied to walls, ceilings, or partitions of buildings, using a trowel, brush or spray gun.

It also involves molding and installing ornamental plaster pieces, panels, and trim. Plastering materials used include base coat gypsum, lime plaster, concrete bonding plaster, and finishing plaster. Colored stucco is created by blending coloring matter and aggregate to obtain desired color.
