C & J Fencing, A Division of Mt. Diablo Lumber Inc.
C & J Fencing builds redwood fences, wood retaining walls and gates for residential and commercial clients in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. The family-owned company specializes in redwood fencing, but it can install numerous styles, including chain link, deer, iron and vinyl. It’s also environmentally-conscious—it uses wood sealants that are free of harmful chemicals and meet all American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) standards, and it can remove and recycle existing fences.
Owners Chris and Jennifer French say C & J Fencing has built a reputation for offering professional service with personal appeal. The Frenches and their staff have more than 40 years of combined experience designing, constructing and maintaining outdoor enclosures. “We work closely with our clients and give them status reports throughout the process,” says Mr. French. “They know what to expect each day.”
C & J Fencing uses redwood boards supplied from its own lumberyard that are thicker and stronger than most other redwood boards, says Mr. French. “We also use longer posts—we sink them deeper into the ground, which anchors them more securely and allows them to stay straight for far longer.”

A: "You can expect the crew at your house between 9 and 10 a.m."
Q: What do I need to do to prepare?
A: "The crew needs two feet of workspace on either side of the fence. Please remove any potted plants and yard decorations from that area, as well as anything attached to the fence that you don’t want us to haul away."
Q: Do I need to be there when the crew arrives?
A: "Although that’s ideal, we understand work and other commitments may not permit it. Please be sure to give the office a phone number where you can be reached throughout the day in case there are any questions."
