Chris BjorklundDear Savvy Consumer:

Have you ever heard someone describe a good service experience by saying, “They really put on the Ritz for us”? What they mean is everything about the service was top-notch, extraordinary, stellar, fit for royalty.

So where did the expression originate? Cesar Ritz, the son of Swiss goat farmers, became a famous hotelier in the early 1900s. When he opened the Ritz Hotel in London in 1906, he created a sensation. By insisting on holding his staff to the highest standards and providing ultimate luxury for his guests, Ritz changed the entire industry. Today, Ritz Hotels all over the world are still carrying out Cesar Ritz’s dream and vision. As a side note, Irving Berlin even wrote a song called “Puttin’ on the Ritz” for a musical by the same name, using the expression to refer to dressing fashionably.

      César Ritz
The very best companies strive to “put on the Ritz” every single day. No detail is overlooked. Customers feel special and appreciated. All staff members, from the receptionist to the owner, work as a team to achieve the highest service standards. If problems arise, they’re resolved quickly.

The good news for you is that www.diamondcertifed.org is a great resource for these types of companies. The next time you need top-quality service of any kind, check it out.

Sincerely,

Adjust Car Mirrors for a Safer Point of View

According to safety experts, most people set their car side view mirrors incorrectly, resulting in blind spots that can lead to an accident. So how should you set your mirrors?

For the passenger side mirror, take your chin and lean it right over the center console. From that vantage point, adjust the mirror far enough out so you can barely see the very back of your vehicle. Similarly, for the driver side mirror, rest your head against the window and adjust the mirror outward so you can barely see the very back of your vehicle.

From your normal position in the driver’s seat, you won’t be able to see any of your own car, and that’s the idea: Side view mirrors aren’t designed to see the sides of your car, but to see cars coming up alongside you.

With your rear view and side mirrors adjusted properly, you should be able to see an approaching car first in the rear view mirror only, then in both the rear view and side view mirrors, then in the side view mirror and your peripheral vision, then only in your peripheral vision, and then the car passes and is gone—you never lose sight of the vehicle completely. The new mirror settings may feel odd at first, but you’ll be safer.

Re: Save Energy Company, Petaluma, CA

I can't say enough about Save Energy Company of Petaluma. They performed as advertised! We live in Sonoma. Because we had two six foot and two eight foot sliders replaced, they gave us a price break, which was great. They sent out five guys and had it done in one day. We couldn't be more satisfied, and we feel good because we’re supporting a local small business. Thank you for your Diamond Certified references—we’ve used them before.
