Talk to Your Vet about Your Pet’s Drugs

Companion Animal Hospital, a Diamond Certified company, provides its customers with all the necessary information before prescribing medication for their pets.

Just like humans, pets can suffer serious side effects from certain prescription medications, so it’s important to ask your veterinarian a lot of specific questions about any drugs being prescribed. You don’t want bad handwriting or general oversight to cause your pet to be given the wrong dosage or even the wrong drug.

To help pet owners, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published “Medications for Your Pet: 10 Questions to Ask Your Vet,” which can be downloaded for free from its website. The agency suggests finding out why a specific drug is being prescribed and whether it should be given with food. You should also ask what to do if your pet vomits when given the drug and what to do if you miss a dose. If your pet is on other medications, ask about possible interactive effects. Find out if you should expect any unusual reactions or side effects and what to do about them.

The FDA wants you and your veterinarian to report unusual drug side effects directly to the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine at 1 (800) FDA-VETS. You can also check out the “Animal & Veterinary” tab at www.fda.gov for information on pet food recalls and other safety issues.

A Proven Erosion Control Technique

Adding rocks to a landscape can help prevent erosion, like this recent project by Reilly Designs, a Diamond Certified company.

Many people don’t address the erosion problems on their properties, either because they don’t see them or because they don’t understand the process. “Erosion is caused by water that picks up volume and, therefore, velocity during storm events,” explains Mark Soiland, President of Soils Plus, a Diamond Certified company. “It can cause major property damage.”

One way to slow down the erosive nature of water is to add rocks of different sizes to your property. Additionally, the rocks will actually help stabilize the ground underneath. “In order to prevent erosion, you have to stop the water at its starting point,” says Mr. Soiland. “It’s a function of channeling or dissipating the water and making sure it doesn’t cause any damage while it moves toward our streams.”

Subject: Xtra Hand

I want to let you know that Xtra Hand recently worked on a kitchen remodeling project of mine. I needed them to come and do emergency sheet rock and insulation work. They came on time and cleaned up after the job was done.

Last year, our house was broken into and the back door was damaged beyond repair. I called Brant (the owner) from Palm Springs on New Year’s Day. He had one of his guys there the next day measuring for a new door. By the end of the day, we had a secure back door.

I tell anyone who wants quality work at a reasonable price to use Xtra Hand. I also tell them to use Diamond Certified companies because I’ve never had any problems. As you can tell, I have a lot of house projects, so I use your service quite a bit. —K.A.
