Slaughterbeck Floors’ team likens the floors it installs to beautiful works of art.
Q: What’s the installation process for a solid wood floor? Can I walk on it during the installation?
A: "After we install the floor, the first step is sanding, which creates most of the dust and noise. Next is staining and finishing, where we apply three coats of finish to the floor. You can’t walk on the floor during this step. The final step is curing. After 24 hours, you can walk on the floor in stocking feet. After 72 hours, you can walk on it in soft-soled shoes and place furniture on it. It takes about two weeks to complete the curing process."
Q: What’s leather flooring?
A: "Leather flooring is made from post-industrial waste leather products, like shoes, car seats and leather bags. The leather is reprocessed, rolled out and re-stamped. It comes in panels, like laminate flooring, with a scratch-resistant, aluminum oxide finish. It can even be used on walls as wainscoting."
Q: What’s an FSC-certified product?
A: "FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. It’s an organization that sets standards for growing, harvesting and manufacturing wood products, ensuring the entire process is Green and sustainable."
Q: How long does it take to order a product?
A: "It depends on the product. Because we offer such a wide selection, we don’t carry large stocks of some materials. Depending on the product, style and color, we may have it in stock or we may have to order it from the manufacturer."
