Platinum Roofing, Inc. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you ever install a new roof over an old roof?
A: "Yes, we do that quite often. California actually allots up to one additional roof per existing roof on a building; after that, they have to come off because of the weight. Most of the techniques and products we employ involve installing new roofs over existing roofs, so removing a roof is the last thing we want to do. Of course, if it has dry rot or a similar problem, it’ll have to be removed, in which case we’ll approach the job from a different angle."
Q: How do I properly maintain my roof?
A: "It depends on what type of roof you have. Single-ply roofs require almost no maintenance, but if you have a white energy-efficient roof, it needs to be power washed periodically to maintain its effectiveness. Typically, you should expect to do some type of maintenance on your roof at least once a year. Cleaning the surface or clearing out drainage areas is usually enough."
Q: Are your labor and materials backed by manufacturers’ warranties?
A: "We tend to work with very large manufacturers that give long-term, ‘no dollar limit’ warranties, which are essentially non-prorated warranties. So, if you buy a 20-year warranty from us, it’s backed by the manufacturer for the duration."
Q: Do you help businesses design roofing systems based on what they want to recoup financially?
A: "Yes. When we’re working with our clients, we help design roofing systems that maximize energy efficiency and put money back in their pockets on a regular basis. When we look at a building, we utilize computer software that analyzes the building’s energy consumption and determines the potential energy savings. For example, we can take a commercial retail building and reduce its cooling and HVAC costs by up to 50 percent."
Q: Since you deal primarily with commercial clients, how do you handle working around normal business hours?
A: "Businesses are often concerned about interruptions, especially if it’s a retail building, so we do everything we can to work around their schedules. Sometimes we’ll work in the evenings, overnight or just past normal business hours, depending on the building’s level of use. If you have sensitive materials inside, we take measures to ensure they’re protected prior to starting the job. We also make sure to set up every job safely so our operations don’t conflict with or interrupt your business’ operations."
