Pimentel Paving, Inc. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do you determine your square footage estimates?
A: "We don’t estimate; we measure. Before we submit a proposal, we’ll come out with a measuring wheel and get an exact measurement of the scope of the job. If our measurements are off, we’re responsible for the difference. We won’t charge you more if we measure incorrectly."
Q: What’s TerraPave?
A: "TerraPave is an environmentally clean alternative to asphalt. It’s made of decomposed granite with a binding agent made from pine resin. It uses no petroleum-based additives, and its binder is combined with an aggregate to achieve desired surface color. The result can blend with or complement the look of surrounding terrain. Because TerraPave is pH-neutral, noncorrosive, nontoxic and nonhazardous, it’s even been used in sensitive riparian and wetland areas."
Q: What’s an asphalt emulsion seal?
A: "An asphalt emulsion seal is a sand and oil mixture. It protects asphalt from ultraviolet rays and winter weather. It also provides a barrier against damage from car oils and other substances, and it gives the asphalt a longer life than if it wasn’t sealed."
Q: What’s a chip seal?
A: "A chip seal is applied to base rock or asphalt. It’s a layer of oil and chipped rock, and it comes in two colors—gray and yellow/gold. It’s more decorative than asphalt emulsion and useful if you have patches in your pavement and want the surface to look as if it were laid at the same time."
Q: What’s asphalt stamping?
A: "Asphalt stamping is an inexpensive way to give an asphalt surface a decorative look. It consists of heating the surface and imprinting it with a pattern (typically brick). We can also give the surface a custom color coating."
