Q: Can you give a diagnosis over the phone?
A: "No. We really need to examine the animal to determine what’s wrong. Unlike human patients, animals can’t tell you what’s wrong with them, so we really have to see them to be sure. For example, if a dog is itching or scratching, it could be fleas, but it also could be something more serious."
Q: Do you provide emergency services?
A: "We’ll see patients on an emergency basis during our normal office hours. After hours, we recommend people call the Pet Emergency and Specialty Clinic at (415) 456-7372."
Q: Do dogs really need dental care?
A: "Yes. Just like people, dogs need to have their teeth cleaned. Daily brushing is very effective for keeping a dog’s teeth healthy. Call us and schedule a free dental exam and teeth brushing demonstration by one of our technicians."
Q: Is obesity really a problem with pets?
A: "Yes. Overweight pets suffer more chronic diseases than those who maintain a healthy weight. Fortunately, weight can usually be controlled with a proper diet. We offer free dietary consultations for people who think their pets are overweight."
Q: Why shouldn’t I wait to see if my dog develops heartworm disease? Can’t my veterinarian just treat it?
A: "By the time your dog shows signs of illness, heartworm disease is well advanced. Treatment is risky, expensive and often ineffective. Prevention, however, is relatively easy and inexpensive."
