Q: Do you build low-maintenance gardens?
A: "Yes, all our gardens are low-maintenance in terms of the types and varieties of grass we use. We also use three or four inches of bark mulch, which, aside from being organic and good looking, helps protect the plant roots, prevents weeds from popping up through the new landscape and helps prevent soil erosion."
Q: What’s your payment schedule?
A: "We ask for 10 percent upfront, not to exceed $1,000. Then we issue a weekly invoice for the work completed to date."
Q: Do you work winters, too?
A: "Yes, winters are actually an excellent time to install a garden—the plants don’t show much above-ground growth and we get the benefit of natural rainfall."
Q: Do you use subcontractors or day laborers?
A: "All our people are full-time, permanent employees, and most have been with us for five to 10 years. We don’t use day laborers because we can’t have unskilled workers onsite. Not only is it unsafe with the heavy equipment we use, but it actually costs more because we end up having to redo work that doesn’t meet our high standards of quality. We occasionally work with a paving or masonry subcontractor if there’s extensive hardscaping work associated with the job."
