Q: What are the best features of the Rx for Wood Floors system?
A: "It’s convenient and uses environmentally-safe materials, developed by the same firm that provides consumer brands such as Verathane, Rust-Oleum, Bondo and DAP. It’s the most durable coating available."
Q: What are the limitations of this process?
A: "Deeply engrained dirt, deeply stained or rotted wood, and cupped or warped boards still need to be sanded or replaced. We can do all that for you. We’ll closely—or sometimes perfectly—match the color of sanded wood with the surrounding floor."
Q: Why should I only use someone with a contractor’s license?
A: "It protects you from inexperienced and undercapitalized contractors. All licensed contractors are bonded and can obtain insurance. The license means you can contact the California Contractors Licensing Board and read any comments or complaints registered about a certain contractor."
Q: How long does it take to have my floors refinished?
A: "Normally, a day and a half."
Q: How long does it take to have my floors sanded?
A: "Typically four days."
Q: How soon can I walk on my floors?
A: "About four hours after we coat them. All our coatings are water based, so they dry fast. So, assuming the job takes a day and a half, the floors are ready to walk on the evening of the second day. You should keep furniture off the floor for an additional day."
Q: If you do a light sanding or spot sanding, does dust end up everywhere?
A: "We have a dust containment system that minimizes the amount of residual dust."
Q: Is the chemical sanding process safe for pets and kids?
A: "Yes. It’s all water-based except for the stain, which is also safe."
Q: How do I prepare for you?
A: "If we’re going to be moving furniture, remove small objects from inside or on top of cabinets. Make sure kids and pets aren’t in the area."
Q: What if I have nowhere to move my furniture?
A: "We can do one room at a time, just like when you paint. We can treat it as two separate jobs—doing half, moving furniture back, and then doing the other half."
Q: Do you also install floors?
A: "Yes. We can install all kinds of wood and bamboo, either on raised or slab floors."
