Q: How will my child be supervised?
A: "We have an overall staff-to-camper ratio of one to three, which is a very high level of supervision. All our staff members are at least 18 years old and have gone to college, so it’s entirely adult supervised. And of course, we implement a rigorous training program for all our employees."
Q: What happens if my child gets homesick?
A: "Many campers will miss home a little while they’re at camp—it’s to be expected and can be a significant growth experience. But very few campers will be distracted from the fun of camp by these feelings. For most, it’s a passing moment easily dealt with by our trained and caring staff. We have a ‘camp mom’ who is there for campers who need more attention. She’ll monitor their progress, communicate with parents and help counselors work with their campers. She’ll contact you if there are any significant concerns, and you can contact her or our office at any time for an update."
Q: What if there’s a medical problem?
A: "We have a health center staffed by qualified personnel, including registered nurses. Any time a child spends a night in the health center or needs an outside medical appointment, we contact the parents. And of course, we have emergency response capabilities for more serious problems."
Q: Can my child stay in a cabin with friends?
A: "Yes, if the parents agree, we’ll place a child with a friend. But we recommend having no more than two or three friends per cabin. More than that and the other children in the cabin begin to feel left out, and we encourage the children to make as many new friends as possible. Part of childhood growth and development is meeting new kids and trying out new activities with different people. Staying with an existing group of friends can inhibit that."
Q: Do you have a cancellation policy?
A: "There are cancellation fees, as with any prepaid travel or vacation opportunity. We want everyone to understand these policies, so they’re clearly spelled out on our website and during the registration process. Understandably, as the summer gets closer, the cancellation fees increase. However, we have numerous options for rolling over your tuition to a future summer. We also offer third party insurance to protect your investment."
