Cline Construction, Inc. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you work on more than one job at a time?
A: "Sometimes, but it depends on the jobs. We can handle up to three minor jobs, but sometimes we can only focus on one major job at a time. The restriction is based on quality control—we’re a small firm, and we’re not going to take on more work than we can properly supervise."
Q: How do you handle changes once a project is underway?
A: "If it’s a minor change, we just do it. But if the change increases the cost or length of the project, we’ll talk to the client about what they want and issue a formal estimate and change order. There are no surprise invoices."
Q: What’s the benefit of using steel framing versus wood framing?
A: "We believe steel framing is superior in almost all circumstances. Mold and fungi don’t grow on steel, and it’s not subject to dry rot or termites. Steel doesn’t shrink. If installed properly, steel framing is just as thermally efficient as wood, and most steel is recycled. Wood is great if you want to touch, feel and see it, but it’s not something that should be behind the wall of a building."
Q: Is steel framing more expensive?
A: "No. For small jobs, it costs about the same, but for larger jobs, steel is often less expensive. Because steel beams and supports can be of any length, you can bridge larger distances without posts or supports: 25 or 30 feet with steel, as opposed to 10 or 12 feet with wood."
Q: Do I have to use steel framing?
A: "No. We build what our customers want. If your plans call for wood framing, that’s what we’ll use."
