Cabinet companies are always looking for ways to discern themselves from their competition, and those that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award are already several steps ahead. Woodenbridge creates custom cabinetry and other woodwork for residential and commercial clients throughout the Bay Area, but it’s the company’s educational approach to dealing with customers that discerns it from its competition. “We make sure our clients know exactly what they’re buying and what their products will look like once installed,” confirms co-owner David Baeza. “When a customer signs off on a project, they’re signing up for the whole detailed package, including designs, materials, colors, construction and installation methods, schedule and price. Our all-inclusive approach makes us stand out in our industry.”
Unlike other cabinet companies that handle one or two aspects of the process and use subcontractors for everything else, Woodenbridge’s in-house staff is comprised of skilled designers, carpenters, finishers and installers who manage projects from start to finish. The company’s design team creates initial plans at no charge and performs accurate measurements of project proposals before contracts are even signed. “We’re known for our reasonable pricing and high-quality work,” says Mr. Baeza. “People can get cheaper cabinets somewhere else, but they won’t get the same materials, construction quality and lifetime guarantee that we provide.”
Another of Woodenbridge’s distinguishing characteristics is its standard 10-step process, which varies based on the type or scale of each project but follows a similar pattern:
1. The client receives a free, no obligation in-home design consultation.
2. A Woodenbridge designer takes preliminary measurements and discusses the project in detail.
3. The designer takes all of the information back to the shop and uses a CAD system to provide photorealistic renderings of the project.
4. The designer schedules a second appointment to review the completed designs. Any changes to the designs will be made at this time.
5. The contract is signed.
6. The cabinets are built and finished (eight to 10 weeks). Faster service is available at higher rates.
7. The cabinets are delivered and installed (one day or more, depending on the scope of the job). Most kitchens can be installed in one to two days.
8. Once the cabinets are installed, a company representative will create a punch list (things that still need to be completed).
9. If needed, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled to resolve any items on the punch list.
10. The project is finalized and the last payment is made based on the agreed schedule.
For references, customers can visit Woodenbridge’s San Jose facility to see current projects in progress. In some instances, the company can also arrange for walkthroughs of current or past jobsites so potential clients can review its workmanship. “Upon completion of every job, we do a walkthrough to teach the customer how to clean their cabinetry, granite or other materials,” notes Mr. Baeza. “Our goal is to educate them until they know exactly how to care for and maintain their cabinets for years to come.”
