Gary Baker, owner of The Freedom Hall and Gardens, knows planning a wedding isn’t always the most joyous occasion for a bride- and groom-to-be. When he founded his Santa Clara event facility in 1995, he knew he’d be providing an important service for couples getting married in the Bay Area.
“I don’t want to call it one-stop shopping,” says Mr. Baker, “because there are so many components to a wedding celebration. But we do take on a large portion of the responsibility.” Mr. Baker says there are five main components to a wedding reception, and The Freedom Hall and Gardens can supply them all: venue, food, drink, wedding cake, and music. “Once a couple chooses us, they can cross quite a few things off their list.”
The Freedom Hall and Gardens’ banquet facilities were completely remodeled in 2008 with new hardwood floors, granite counter bar tops and other upgrades. But the centerpiece of the venue remains its landscaped gardens, where ceremonies are held and which the receptions halls overlook, so guests can enjoy the gardens throughout a celebration.
“In the wedding business, you obviously don’t get a lot of repeat customers,” says Mr. Baker. “But word of mouth is important, and our reputation for service sets us apart.” He says this service includes a 100 percent customer satisfaction rating and an annual drawing among its customers of the past year, where one lucky couple gets the cost of their wedding refunded.
