Electrical contractors are always looking for ways to discern themselves from their competition, and those that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award are already several steps ahead. Mulder Electric further differentiates itself by intently focusing on the aesthetic qualities of every electrical project it undertakes—a detail-oriented approach that’s uncommon in the industry. “People don’t usually think about looks when they think about electrical work, but it’s a big part of the job,” says owner Matt Mulder. “We always make sure our electrical work fits the look of the house. Details like that make a big difference to customers.”
Mr. Mulder established Mulder Electric in 1985 to serve the electrical needs of Contra Costa County residents. Since then, the company has been rewiring houses, adding outlets, installing surround sound systems and security lighting, offering consultation and inspection services, and more. “We’re particularly good at troubleshooting complex problems,” says Mr. Mulder. “When a customer first calls, we try to talk them through basic troubleshooting steps. Sometimes we can solve the problem over the phone, and we don’t charge for that. It saves the customer money and generates business for us, because they’ll remember our professionalism and call us again or refer us to a friend.”
Another distinguishing characteristic of Mulder Electric is the vast amount of industry experience possessed by its electricians. Mr. Mulder has been in the electrical trade for almost 40 years, and his main electrician, Chris Bennett, is a certified journeyman electrician who’s been with the company since 2003. “Our customers can count on our experience,” says Mr. Mulder. “We keep current with the industry’s latest installation methods and technology.”
Unlike electrical contractors that only focus on rewiring homes or installing electrical systems, Mulder Electric can also help homeowners implement Green technology in their homes, and it’s currently preparing to expand its services to include solar electric work. “Solar is a great way for people to combat high energy costs and reduce their carbon footprints,” says Mr. Mulder.
