Marshall Realty uses the word “community” to describe its business approach. The San Bruno real estate firm has been a local fixture for more than 50 years, so much so that many in the community have dubbed owner and founder Bob Marshall, Sr. “Mr. San Bruno”. Marshall Realty prizes its connections to the community—Mr. Marshall was mayor of San Bruno for 12 years, and many of the firm’s realtors serve on school boards, planning commissions, and are members of civic organizations such as the Rotary Club.
This devotion to the community translates to highly personalized service for Marshall Realty’s clients. Phone calls are answered immediately and clients are kept up-to-date with the market status of their homes. “Selling real estate is more than just putting a sign up and waiting for a call,” says Mr. Marshall. “Our people will work hard to sell—or find—your house.”
Marshall Realty runs a First Time Buyers Program, which counsels clients who are unfamiliar with the real estate market. A lender is present to qualify the buyers for a loan. “We take the extra time to explain the various provisions of mortgage agreements,” says Mr. Marshall. “Often, we advise people to wait and look for something that’s better suited to their financial situation. We’d rather educate them than put them in a situation where they’ll be over their heads in a year or two.
“To us, commission comes last,” Mr. Marshall continues. “We’re not going to advise a client to sell or buy just to collect our commission. The clients’ needs always come first. That’s why we’re still around after 50 years.”
