For David Hurwitz, owner of Glass with Class, window cleaning is an art form. Mr. Hurwitz’s company has been cleaning windows for residential and commercial clients in Sonoma and Marin Counties since 1979. He says his employees understand that window cleaning isn’t simply about running a squeegee across a pane. “We scrub and vacuum windows’ tracks. We wipe down frames and wash screens. It’s a complete cleaning, not just Windex and paper towels.”
Glass with Class specializes in high and difficult-to-reach windows. The company is fully insured and certified to offer aerial work, and its cleaners know how to safely work aloft. “We use water-fed poles to wash high windows from the ground,” explains Mr. Hurwitz. “We have the right equipment to do the work correctly and safely. We’ve had a number of clients hire us after they watched another firm climb on a roof without safety equipment.”
Glass with Class’ regular employees have been with the firm for many years—some as long as 20. The company hires temporary helpers for the busy summer season, but they undergo a two-week training program before they go to work. Summer workers typically focus on scrubbing window tracks and washing screens. “If they’re good, we’ll put them to work washing some glass,” says Mr. Hurwitz.
To minimize its impact on the environment, Glass with Class uses environmentally-friendly washing materials and drives biodiesel-fueled vehicles to jobsites. The company also specializes in repairing scratched and damaged glass. “We have a scratch kit that can remove scratches, water stains, graffiti and other problems,” says Mr. Hurwitz.
