Paving stone companies are always looking for ways to discern themselves from their competition, and those that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award are already several steps ahead. In addition to its Diamond Certified status, Empire Paving Systems differentiates itself by offering its customers the dedicated, personalized service only a small business can provide. “Our small size makes us more responsive,” says owner Paulo Sciascio. “Also, as a local company, we’re very familiar with the Bay Area’s soil and weather conditions, which allows us to customize our paving products for each customer’s environment.”
In addition to using interlocking paving stones to create driveways, patios, pool decks, walkways and retaining walls, Empire Paving Systems installs artificial turf landscapes, barbecues, fireplaces, playgrounds and drainage systems. Mr. Sciascio says his company’s comprehensive paving stone capabilities have endeared it to its customers. “They also really appreciate our mobile showroom, which we bring with us when we conduct site surveys and give estimates. The showroom has numerous samples of different paving products, so customers can see how the products interact with their actual locations.”
Unlike larger paving stone companies that require clients to communicate with several managers during the installation process, Empire Paving Systems offers the experience and knowledge of its owner to every customer. “I personally conduct the quality inspection on every job,” confirms Mr. Sciascio. “That’s an important part of our operation, because clients know they’re getting the best possible service.”
Another distinguishing characteristic of Empire Paving Systems is its use of long-term employees instead of subcontractors. “Most of our people have been with us for at least six years,” says Mr. Sciascio. “They all know exactly what they’re doing, and they always finish jobs on time. After every project, they conduct a thorough clean-up, remove all demolition material and wash down the street. They always leave jobsites in better condition than when they arrived.”
