Owner Mark Byington, an electrical engineer with 30 years’ experience in the Silicon Valley, founded the company in 2003. “We do everything we can to make the solar installation experience easy and satisfying for our customers,” says Mr. Byington. “During the first meeting with a client, we’ll get up on their roof to gather information on their building as it relates to solar power.” Cobalt Power Systems works with a roofing company to ensure customers’ roofs are restored to conditions better than they were before panels were installed. “Once the system is installed,” says Mr. Byington, “we have a wrap-up meeting with the client and give them a binder that contains all the relevant information about their system, including warranties, tax and rebate information, and user guides.”

Cobalt Power Systems was the first firm in the United States to receive “elite dealer” status from SunPower Corporation, a worldwide supplier of solar panels. Mr. Byington says the company received the designation because of its high customer service ratings and the training, knowledge and experience of its personnel.
