Attention to detail is just one of the many things that have helped Barry’s Carpet Service, Inc. maintain its excellent reputation among customers year after year. Details important to its clientele include safety and the protection of property and security…but getting exceptional carpet care from seasoned professionals is also right at the top.
“We follow a five-step process,” explains Barry Vasu, the company’s owner. “We pre-vacuum, pre-treat and pre-spot, then we rinse the carpet and, finally, groom and dry it. We don’t just come in and do hit-and-run cleaning.” Customers can expect a follow-up call to verify they’re happy with the job. “If there’s anything to fix, we’ll fix it,” says Mr. Vasu.
The technicians at Barry’s Carpet Service are experienced, knowledgeable and professional, says Mr. Vasu. “First, we work very hard to be on time, and we’ll certainly be efficient,” he says. “You don’t have to worry about walls being scratched or scraped. If you prefer we wear booties, we’ll be glad to do that.
“Another thing I’m pretty finicky about,” he continues, “is trying to keep two men on the truck so they aren’t overburdened when we get busy. I don’t want them to compromise quality or skip details because they’re too tired at the end of the day.”
Mr. Vasu believes good communication among his employees ultimately leads to better customer service. Technicians are encouraged to read trade magazines and bring ideas for improvement to the table, and team meetings are routinely held to discuss any problems or concerns they may have. They brainstorm and compare notes about experiences, techniques, products and equipment.
The professionals at Barry’s Carpet Service feel that being flexible and adaptable is an asset in the carpet, upholstery and rug cleaning business. They believe if every cleaning opportunity is approached in the same manner, it can actually result in a disservice to the customer. “If you’re open-minded in your discussions with a customer and apply techniques in an open-minded manner, sometimes you can outperform other cleaners who just have a rote method of cleaning,” says Mr. Vasu. “That’s one thing about being an independent business—we can be light on our feet. We can look carefully at the item to be cleaned and talk to each other. Some of the best ideas I hear come from guys who are my juniors. I’m always open to learning.”
