“You definitely want to know the background and experience of your dentist,” advises Porteous Family Dentistry’s Linda Porteous, RDH. But it shouldn’t end there. Some other important things to consider:
• Are the dentist and staff willing to take the time to answer all your questions and concerns?
• What kind of services do they provide?
• Do they accept patients of all ages?
• Is the facility pleasant and comfortable?
• Is the company’s policy to give you the pros and cons of any recommended treatment? Will it offer you treatment options?
• What would your financial responsibilities be? Do they accept personal checks, insurance or credit cards? Are there any financing options?
• What are the office hours? Are they convenient for you and your family?
• How are off-hour emergencies handled? Is there a “back-up” dentist who’s on call if your dentist is on vacation or out of town?
• Do office personnel practice up-to-date sterilization techniques?
• Is the staff friendly and well-trained? • There are always new things being developed in the field of dentistry. Is the dentist keeping up with all the latest information and technology?
By doing a little homework, you can ensure you and your family get the courteous and professional care you deserve.
