Make sure you have a basic understanding of paving stone cleaning products before using them.

Regularly cleaning your paving stones is important for maintaining their longevity, but it’s equally important to remember that concrete, clay, natural stone and pavers all need to be cleaned differently. For example, some common cleaners may be too harsh for natural stone, while others may contain acid that strips concrete pavers of their color. Always consult the manufacturers of these products to gain a clear understanding of how a certain cleaner can be used. Once you decide on a product, consider the following tips for cleaning your paving stones:

Color testing
Before applying a cleaning agent, sample its effect on the area and make sure you get the result you expect. Apply a tiny amount of cleaner to the surface of a paver, leave it for a few minutes and see if any reaction occurs. If not, it’s safe to use.

Apply a cleaner
Use a broom, brush or roller to apply the most suitable cleaner for your pavers and leave it to set for a couple minutes.

Remove stains
Once the cleaner has set, you can either scrub the stained area by hand or spray it with a pressurized water hose. As soon as all stains are removed and the pavers are clean, rinse the area thoroughly and leave it to dry for a day or two.
