Barry's Carpet Service, Inc. Industry Info

Before you hire a carpet cleaning service, make sure it’s experienced and well trained.

It's smart to always verify that any carpet-cleaning surface you're considering is insured. Certifications are critical, so check to see it has the necessary credentials to do a professional job. “Ask if they’ve attended classes to understand the products they’re working on and working with,” says Barry Vasu, owner of Barry’s Carpet Service, Inc. “Also look for somebody who goes to conventions and trade shows to stay current. I’d encourage a potential customer to interview one of the technicians or even the owner.”

A good carpet cleaner is someone who can help you understand what your carpet needs. “I always tell a technician to find out what the customer wants, and if it isn’t what he thinks they need, I advise him not to start cleaning until they come to an agreement,” says Mr. Vasu. “The last thing a serious professional wants is to do a job incorrectly by a customer’s standards and find out later.” Obviously, good communication skills are important in this business— and should be considered before you hire a carpet cleaner.

Ask about the products the cleaner plans to use and make sure they’re safe, especially if you have children and/or pets. If possible, talk to someone who’s already used the company’s services. There’s nothing better than getting a testimonial from a satisfied customer.
